Masters of Communication Alumni Association Universitas Diponegoro (Ika Mikom Undip) held a webinar entitled “Membangun Ekosistem Digital di Dunia Metaverse (Building a Digital Ecosystem in the Metaverse World)”, Saturday (26/3) through the zoom meeting application.

The Chairperson of the Webinar Committee, Heni Indrayani MIKom, said that the world of the metaverse was an interesting issue today along with the development of digital technology. In fact, according to a study, it was predicted that by 2025, 25 percent of our society would spend at least one hour a day studying, working, shopping and looking for entertainment in the Metaverse.

“Based on this reality, Ika Mikom is here to hold a webinar which is expected to provide a comprehensive illustration of the digital ecosystem in welcoming the Metaverse and also provide input for academics and practitioners,” she said.

According to Heni, Metaverse was a concept of a virtual community world built connected to each other, where people could meet, work, learn, and even make a transaction like in the real world due to the support of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology. In responding to the challenges of new technology and preparing the Metaverse in Indonesia, it required knowledge and understanding of how the digital ecosystem was built on the Metaverse. The reason was that digital reality in Metaverse combined aspects of social media, online gaming, augmented reality, virtual reality and cryptocurrency.

“Many call the Metaverse the second world of mankind. This reality will, directly and indirectly, affect how humans interact. We hope that with this webinar we can understand the metaverse and the benefits that come with it,” she explained.

Presenting as the speakers were Budiman Sudjatmiko (Initiator of Algorithm Hill), Ahmad Khoirudin (Chairman of the Central Java Creative Economy Committee) and Dr. Triyono Lukmantoro (Undip Master of Communication Science Lecturer),

In his presentation, Dr. Triyono Lukmantoro said Decentraland was a blockchain-based virtual world, enabling users to build tools, games, content, and markets, among others and providing an infrastructure that supports a shared virtual world, commonly Metaverse. Whereas, Metaverse was a post-reality universe, an immutable and permanent user environment, combining physical reality with virtual reality, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).

“News is an event that is considered newsworthy. Regarding journalism, journalism puts events, ideas, information, and controversies in their context, selection and presentation and assessment of the validity, honesty, or representativeness of actions or comments. Meanwhile, digital journalism does not start with the concept of journalism but digital, not journalism transformed by digital technology,” he said.

“While the different purposes of information, persuasion, and propaganda are information to encourage mutual understanding of the sender and receiver of the message, share ideas, explain, and instruct. Persuasion encourages the mutual fulfilment of the needs of the message sender-receiver, response formation, and response change. Propaganda supports the purpose of the sender of the message, it does not have to meet the best needs of the recipient of the message, controls the flow of information, manages public opinion and manipulates behavioural patterns.
