As stated by Dr. Novi Kurnia, MA, who was an Academic Staff for the Master Program in Communication Science at the Faculty of Social Science in a webinar called the Resistance and Agency: Female Directors and Indonesian Cinema ” held virtually by the FISIP UNDIP Master Program of Communication Science through the Zoom platform, Friday (27/11/ 2020).
According to her, even though women were always known to be around the film sphere, it was still not easy for a them to get a recognition. In addition, the information on women in the industrial world was neither easy to find. Many histories had been lost regarding the involvement of women in the film industry.
“In fact, it is very important (the women’s perspective in a film work), because when women have a voice, we can change the perspective of the society,” she said.
Novi assessed that the perspective of women in the Indonesian film industry was really needed. So that in the future the national films would be richer and provide a balanced perspective. She also wished that there would be more women working as directors.
